Mustang High School student Zach Doran has passed away according to his father.

Doran, a MHS football player and aspiring MMA fighter, collapsed earlier this month while practicing mixed martial arts at a gym in Edmond. CPR was administered by his teammates before paramedics arrived to transfer him to the hospital.

Doran passed at 10:57 p.m. on Wednesday at Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Zach’s father Jason Doran, an assistant football coach at MHS, posted multiple updates on his Facebook page and was met with an outpouring of prayer and support from the Mustang community as well as others.

“At 10:57 Wednesday night our boy Zachary David Doran went to be with Jesus,” Jason wrote on Facebook. “Jesus Is Better. We were so blessed to have him in our lives for the last 18 years. We are at peace knowing he is sitting in Heaven with our Lord And Savior.”

A celebration of Zach’s life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Together We Church in Yukon. The family asks attendees to wear something that ties them to Zach.

According to a News 9 article, Doran’s family said they have plans to enact change by helping create a new law in Zach’s name, which would require automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in all gym facilities.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the Doran family. If you would like to donate, please CLICK HERE.
