The Mustang Broncos (4-1, 1-1) host the Jenks Trojans (2-3, 1-1) tonight at Bronco Stadium, looking to possibly put a stranglehold on a first-round playoff bye in a few weeks.
The Broncos are coming off a thrilling, comeback win over Enid last week while the Trojans enter the game after snapping a three-game losing streak in a 31-12 win over Norman.
Can Mustang’s last-minute victory over the Plainsmen help spur a huge victory this Friday night? Or will the east-side power return to form and hand the Broncos their second district loss of the season?
Check out the pregame primer and find out who The Mustang Sports Review thinks will come out on top tonight:

MUSTANG OUTLOOK
Offensively, the Broncos totaled 412 yards last week at Enid, including a final drive that helped set up a game-winning 29-yard field goal by Kicker Aiden Jordan (Sr.).
Quarterback Trajan Williamson (Sr.) threw a pair of pick-6 interceptions to start the second half of that game, but came up big in the final minutes, leading the go-ahead drive after punching in a 4-yard TD run to pull within two points with 2:32 remaining.
Running back Latin Everheart (Sr.) rushed for a 131 yards on 18 carries, providing a jolt to the team’s offense throughout the game. He is now up to 500 yards with three scores in 2024.
Jaden Johnson (Jr.), Jaytee Johnson (Jr.), Ben Patkowski (Sr.), and Derek Straughn (So.) all caught at least two passes against the Plainsmen. Mustang’s passing attack has plenty of weapons to attack a Jenks defense that has allowed just 17.4 points per game through five contests.
Mustang’s defense struggled against Enid’s passing attack last week, but did hold the Plainsmen to just 44 rushing yards on 19 attempts. Jaytee Johnson came down with a win-sealing interception with under :30 remaining.
The Broncos will have to fire on all cylinders against the Trojans, who may be sitting at 2-3 overall, but still possess the talent to make a deep playoff run.
JENKS OUTLOOK
It was the Kayleb Barnett and KD Jones show last week as the Trojans ended a three-game losing streak with a 31-12 win over the Norman Tigers at home.
Barnett, who is committed to play at Central Arkansas, caught three passes and finished with 116 yards, including 26-yard and 77-yard touchdown receptions. Jones rushed for 122 yards on 26 carries, including a 3-yard score in the first half and a 1-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Jones is the son of former Jenks star and University of Oklahoma running back Kejuan Jones and holds over 20 major offers to play collegiately, including Alabama, OU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and others.
Quarterback Owen Jones, who is up over 1,000 yards for the season, went 12-for-19 through the air for 228 yards with the pair of TD tosses to Barnett. Wide receiver Jaylon Cato chipped in six catches for 90 yards.
The Jenks offensive attack is well rounded under head coach Keith Riggs. The Trojans amassed 386 total yards against a Norman defense that had allowed just just 17.2 points per game over the first five weeks.
They did, however, give up 23 first downs against the Tigers while giving up 377 total yards. Three turnovers, including two fumbles and one interception, made a big difference in the outcome. It wasn’t exactly a pristine outing either for Jenks as Riggs’ squad was penalized 10 times.
The Trojans have lost Owasso (42-24), Union (9-3), and Bixby (21-7) this season and have defeated Edmond Santa Fe (48-3) and Norman.
Mustang should be familiar with the Jenks defense as former Bronco defensive coordinator Adam Gaylor heads that side of the ball. Safety Sam Stone is a player to watch as he is currently committed to Princeton. Two-way players Malakai and Kailib Dillard recently received offers from the Miami Hurricanes.
PREDICTION: MUSTANG 29, JENKS 27
The Broncos can beat any team in the state on any given night. That includes the mighty Jenks Trojans.
The game plan will be critical offensively and defensively. Clean play will be too, as penalties have sometimes been a problem for the Broncos. Watch for Williamson and the offense, which is loaded with playmakers, to control the clock and keep their Jenks counterparts on the sideline as much as possible.
This will be the best performance for defensive coordinator Waleed Gaines’ group. They will force three turnover and help fuel the Week 6 “upset.”
