Brocker, Torres win PCO Tournament at 1 doubles; Broncos solid in first two outings

The Mustang Broncos are off to a solid start this spring, finishing in the top three of their first two tournaments.

The Broncos kicked off the season with a third place showing in the Westmoore Invitational at the Earlywine Tennis Center on March 1 before finishing second in the Putnam City Original Tournament at Edmond Center Court last Monday.

PCO TOURNAMENT

The 1 doubles team of Ella Brocker (Sr.) and Jasmine Torres (Sr.) picked up Mustang’s first win of the season after cruising to first place in the PCO Tournament.

The senior duo defeated the host Pirates 6-0, 6-1 in the first round before knocking off Bedlam rival Yukon 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals. They capped their run with a tiebreaker win over Deer Creek in the championship match.

Senior Madeline Hague finished runner-up at 1 singles after defeating Midwest City’s Kilee Williams 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and Deer Creek’s Rowan Ochs 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinals. She fell to Yukon’s Lydia Blackwell 6-4, 6-0 in the championship match.

Addison Doudney (Fr.) finished third at 2 singles in her second varsity tournament. She defeated Midwest City’s Skyler Hubard 6-0, 6-0 in the first round before falling to Deer Creek’s Addison Parises 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Doudney bounced back with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Putnam City’s Alyssa Delzer in the third/fourth place match.

The 2 doubles team of Emerson Doudney (Fr.) and Kristen Limpke (Sr.) also finished third. They opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Edmond Santa Fe before falling to Deer Creek in a tiebreaker.

The duo bounced back with a tiebreaker win over Putnam City North in the third/fourth place match.

The Broncos scored 28 team points, finishing just five points behind tournament champion Yukon (33). Deer Creek finished third with 27 points.

WESTMOORE INVITATIONAL

Both singles players and Mustang’s 1 doubles team finished fourth in the first tournament of the season. The Broncos finished sixth at 2 doubles.

Hague won her first match over Muskogee’s Quera Germany 6-0, 6-0 before falling to Bartlesville’s Abby Shelley 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals at 1 singles. She fell to Casady’s Emilia Mantilla in the third/fourth place match.

Addison Doudney defeated Choctaw’s Grace Mathis 6-2, 6-3 in the first round at 2 singles before falling to Bartlesville’s Ava Kelly 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals at 2 singles. She lost to Southmoore’s Mia Johnson in a tiebreaker in the third/fourth place match.

Brocker and Torres opened the 1 doubles bracket with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Southmoore before losing to Casady in a tiebreaker in the semifinals. They also lost a tiebreaker to Moore in the third/fourth place match.

Kenley Dillon (Sr.) and Nyla Torres (So.) dropped their first match in the 2 doubles bracket, falling to Casady 6-2, 6-0. However, they bounced back with a tiebreaker win over Muskogee in the first round of the consolation bracket before falling to Westmoore in a tiebreaker in the fifth/sixth place match.

The Broncos scored 19 team points, finishing third behind tournament champion Bartlesville (36) and runner-up Casady (26).
