The Mustang Broncos finished eighth in the COAC conference meet on Tuesday at Deer Creek, showing vast improvement from the first meet of the season on the same course.

The No. 16 Broncos clocked an average top-five time of 21:19.97, which was over a full minute improvement (22:20.24) from the Deer Creek Field Run Festival in August. They also finished with a split time of 1:12, which was second best at the meet.

All seven of Mustang’s racers improved upon their individual times, including Katie Jones (Sr.), who paced the Broncos in 29th place overall with a time of 20:34.07. Her time at the Field Run was 21:07.40.

Londyn Medrano (So.) took nearly three minutes off her time from August (23:59.24), placing 37th overall with a time of 21:12.59. Carol Le (Jr.) followed just behind Medrano, placing 44th with a time of 21:28.57. She cut four seconds off her time from the Field Run.

Emily Krafft (Sr.) placed 49th overall with a time of 21:46.84 while Emerson Hodde (So.) placed 50th with a time of 21:46.84. Krafft shed nearly 30 seconds from her August time while Hodde cut over one minute.

Claire Shriver (Fr.) and Madison Smith (So.) finished as the team’s displacers.

Shriver placed 61st overall with a time of 22:20.03, cutting just under two minutes off her time from the Field Run. Smith cut nearly one minute, placing 71st with a time of 23:02.81.

Top-ranked Deer Creek won the meet, scoring 43 points with a top-five average time of 19:08.24. No. 5 Edmond Memorial finished second with 74 points while No. 2 Edmond North finished third with 94 points.

The Broncos now look to keep alive their 26-year streak of qualifying for the state meet at regionals. The regional meet is set for Oct. 22 at Wild Horse Park in Mustang.
