The Mustang Broncos cruised to their second straight district win on Thursday, knocking off Edmond Santa Fe 6-0 in the team’s home opener.

Mustang (5-2, 2-0) racked up 11 hits against the Wolves (7-3, 4-1) – including home runs from senior Landry Garza and freshman Rylann Beeson – while Kiera McGahee allowed just four knocks from the circle for the team’s third straight win overall.

The Broncos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and added three more in the bottom of the third.

Senior Logan Pickelsimer, got things going in the third with a single, followed by a base hit from freshman Reese Poage. Senior Olivia See – running for Pickelsimer – scored after an error on the play, tallying the game’s first run.

Junior Arionna McElroy singled to lead off the next inning, followed by an RBI-double from freshman Lexy Kierstead, for a 2-0 lead. Junior Fae Cornish moved Kierstead to third with a single before a sacrifice fly from junior Emerson Pegram and an RBI-ground out by junior Eden Anderson for a 4-0 advantage.

Garza’s solo homer in the fourth inning and Beeson’s pinch-hit shot in the fifth was more than enough for McGahee to seal the win.

The senior hurler worked seven scoreless innings, allowing just one walk with eight strikeouts. She has now pitched 14 straight frames without allowing a run, dating back to the Broken Arrow tournament last weekend.

Mustang continues its season today in the 2022 Southmoore Festival. The Broncos travel to Westmoore for a noon game against the undefeated Jaguars (10-0) and then to Souhmoore for a 3 p.m. matchup against Broken Arrow (6-0).
