Bronco pride was on full display last Saturday night.

Players, coaches, parents, and fans turned out in full force for Mustang’s second annual Bring Out the Broncos event.

Teams from 4U to Mustang’s varsity, as well as cheer and pom squads, joined together to celebrate the town and school’s unofficial start to football season at Bronco Stadium.

“It has been awesome just to see the entire community here,” Mustang coach Lee Blankenship said. “It’s pretty special to see players from four years old all the way up to seniors in high school running out of the tunnel at the same time.”

Little league, middle school and ninth grade teams were introduced and took part in scrimmages followed by ninth-grade squads and the junior varsity. The event also featured cheer and pom squad performances from each level.

Following Mustang senior Jacobe Johnson’s commitment announcement to the University of Oklahoma, and performances from the high school cheer and pom squads, players from all levels joined together to run through the Bronco tunnel. The event was capped with varsity intrasquad scrimmages.

After seeing such a solid turnout, Blankenship praised the support his program has received from everyone involved.

“This has been my vision since I got here,” he said. “The opportunity to bring this all together has been special for me and the staff. I’m just thankful for all of the parents and coaches from youth to middle school to our high school team that have jumped on board and have bought into what we’re trying to do.”

Now with the season just two weeks away, Blankenship and his squad can focus on the task at hand. Having a strong, foundational support system from the school and community will only help the cause.

“It’s huge,” he said. “It tells you how important this is. Everybody is pulling the same direction for the same goal and that’s to bring a state title to Mustang.

“We’re going to do that here. I don’t know how long it’s going to take, but we’re going to get it done.”
