It’s the final week of non-district play as the Mustang Broncos host the Westmoore Jaguars in a rematch of the first round of the 2023 playoffs.

Mustang is coming off a thrilling overtime victory over the Broken Arrow Tigers last week while Westmoore enters the game off a 17-14 loss to the Southmoore Sabercats in the Southwest Rivalry Game at Moore Schools Stadium.

Coach Lee Blankenship’s squad is out for revenge after the Jaguars defeated the Broncos 43-38 in last year’s postseason matchup.

WHO TO WATCH FOR OFFENSIVELY: MUSTANG

Bronco quarterback Trajan Williamson (Sr.) has shined through two games this season, going 34-for-48 through the air for 572 yards and six touchdown passes. He has also rushed 31 times for 144 yards with five scores on the ground.

Last week, Williamson passed for 233 yards with one TD and rushed for 79 yards with four scores. He punched in a game-tying touchdown with :14 remaining to force overtime and then scored to put Mustang on top for good in the extra period. Watch out for a monster game for the Mustang signal caller for a third straight week.

Senior running back Latin Everheart broke out last week with 133 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown. He should once again be a major factor in the team’s rushing attack.

The Johnson twins, Jaytee and Jaden, have already proven to be one of the best wide receiver tandems in the state this season. Jaytee reeled in eight catches for 161 yards with three touchdowns in Week 1 vs Yukon while Jaden caught six passes for 118 yards and one score last week vs Broken Arrow.

WHO TO WATCH FOR OFFENSIVELY: WESTMOORE

The Jaguars bring back just one offensive starters from last year’s playoff team, including wide receiver Jaden Hunter (Sr.).

Quarterback Tre Lewis (Sr.) mans the team’s air raid pistol offense. He will look to get the ball to Hunter, senior tight end Vidal Ortiz and other wideouts Bryce Collier (Jr.) and Anthony Norris (So.).

WHO TO WATCH FOR DEFENSIVELY: MUSTANG

Mustang’s three-headed monster at linebacker produced a huge effort last week against Broken Arrow.

Kaden Bachus (Jr.) led the team with 20 total tackles while Josiah Stevens (Jr.) and Parker Sorrell (Jr.) each recorded 18. Sorrell even scored a touchdown and stopped Broken Arrow running back Kaiden Lolles (So.) in his tracks on a two-point conversion try in overtime to seal the team’s second victory.

As the Bronco trio continues to grow, they could become the best linebacker group in the state.

Defensive lineman Onesi Ngalo (Sr.) had a big game last week, recording 10 total tackles and one quarterback hurry. He and line mate Louie Jones (Sr.) pack a punch up front and have been successful at stopping the run and putting pressure on opposing signal callers.

Safeties Blaine Fulmer (Sr.) and Tayten Duncan (Jr.) each finished with double-digit tackles last week, including 12 from Fulmer and 11 from Duncan. Along with cornerback Waleed Gaines Jr. (Sr.), the Bronco secondary has been lights out so far this season.

WHO TO WATCH FOR DEFENSIVELY: WESTMOORE

Defensive tackle John Hermosillo (Sr.) is the team’s lone returning starter on defense.

Also watch out for Ortiz and Devin Lacroix (Sr.) at the outside linebacker positions. Joseph Coffey (Sr.) will be one of the team’s top defensive linemen along with Hermosillo and Gavin Gagnon (Sr.).

The Jags run a 3-4 scheme on the defensive side of the ball.

PREDICTION: MUSTANG 49, WESTMOORE 7

The Broncos will ride the momentum from last week’s overtime win over Broken Arrow and roll the Jaguars. Westmoore lacks experience on both sides of the ball and Mustang should take advantage all night.
