No. 7 Broncos win four matches, finish runner-up at 2024 Choctaw Tournament

The No. 7 Mustang Broncos won four of five matches and finished runner-up in the 2024 Choctaw Tournament held Aug. 23-24 at Choctaw High School.

The Broncos (15-5) defeated Class 5A No. 9 Oklahoma Christian School, 6A No. 12 Westmoore, the host Yellowjackets, and Norman North before dropping a rematch with Westmoore in the championship match.

MUSTANG 2, OCS 1

The Broncos opened the tournament with a win over the top 10 Saints.

Outside hitter Grace Davis (Jr.) and opposite side hitter Hayden Tabolsky (Jr.) led the team offensively, each finishing with a team-high eight kills. Middle blocker Emrie Brown (Sr.) and opposite side hitter Hadley Hunter (Sr.) each tallied six kills while middle blocker Siyah Williams (So.) recorded five. Setter Reagan Glenn (Jr.) added three.

Glenn led the team with 25 assists while libero Gracelyn Higgins (Sr.) finished with three and Davis added two.

Higgins also helped lead the team defensively, finishing with a team-high 22 digs. Glenn tallied nine while Davis and Hunter each added seven. Defensive specialist Stevie Sawyer (Sr.) added four.

At the net, Brown and Williams led the team with three total blocks apiece while opposite side hitter Prasiah Hunt (Jr.), Davis, Glenn, and Tobolsky each finished with one.

Davis finished with the team’s only ace in the service game.

MUSTANG 2, WESTMOORE 1

Mustang improved to 2-0 in the tournament with a 2-1 win over the 12th-ranked Jaguars.

Davis and Hunter led the team offensively with five kills apiece. Williams, Brown, and Tobolsky each finished with four while Glenn tallied one.

Glenn again led the team with 17 assists while Higgins finished with two. Setter Zoe Christy (So.), Hunter, and Brown each added one.

Hunter paced the team with 12 digs on the defensive end while Higgins finished with 10. Davis tallied five digs while Glenn added four. Defensive specialist Joslynn Peterson (Jr.) finished with three while Brown finished with two and Williams finished with one.

The Broncos were strong at the net in their second match, led by Brown who finished with five blocks. Glenn finished with four while Williams finished with two. Davis, Hunter, and Tobolsky added one apiece.

Glenn led the team in aces, finishing with six. Brown and Hunter each finished with two.

MUSTANG 2, CHOCTAW 0

Coach Blake Newman’s squad finished off action on Friday with a two-set win over the host Yellowjackets.

Davis led the team with nine kills on the offensive end. Hunt added three kills while Williams, Brown, and Hunter each tallied two.

Glenn, who recorded one kill, paced the Broncos with 14 assists. Higgins assisted on two kills while Peterson and Hunter assisted on one.

Three players finished with at least seven digs on the defensive end, including Higgins who finished with a team-high nine. Glenn provided eight while Hunter tallied seven. Davis added five while Williams, Hunt, Tobolsky, and Sawyer each added two.

Brown led the team at the net, finishing with four blocks. Glenn finished with two while Williams, Hunt, Davis, and Brown each tallied one.

Williams, Davis, Peterson, Glenn, Higgins, Hunter, and Sawyer all sent home an ace in the service game.

MUSTANG 3, NORMAN NORTH 0

Mustang moved into the championship match with a three-set win over the Timberwolves in the semifinals.

The Broncos dominated offensively, led by Davis and Brown who each finished with double-digit kills. Davis tallied 16 while Brown finished with 13. Williams added six while Hunter added four.

Glenn played a major part on the offensive end as well, tallying a tournament-high 34 assists. Higgins added three while Peterson and Williams each recorded one.

Higgins and Hunter each finished with double-digit digs, including a team-high 13 by Higgins and 10 by Hunter. Davis and Sawyer nearly reach double digits, each finishing with eight. Glenn added six while Peterson and Hunt each added four. Williams tallied three.

Brown and Tobolsky each led the team with five blocks at the net while Glenn and Williams each finished with one.

Higgins served two aces while Davis, Glenn, Brown, and Sawyer each served one ace.

TOTALS

Five players finished the tournament with double-digit kills. Davis led the way with a total of 40 while Brown tallied 31, Hunter tallied 19, Williams recorded 18, and Tobolsky finished with 16.

Glenn cracked triple digits in assists, leading the team with 100 across five matches. Higgins finished the tournament with 10 while Davis finished with seven.

Eight players finished with double-digit digs on the defensive end. Higgins led the way with 61 while Hunter finished with 38. Davis added 31, Glenn added 28, and Tobolsky and Sawyer each added 14. Peterson tallied 12 while Hunt finished with 11.

Three players finished with double-digit blocks, including a team-high 17 from Brown and 10 apiece from Tobolsky and Williams.
