The Mustang Broncos racked up 12 hits and held the Edmond North Huskies to just two in a 5-2 season-opening win on Monday at the University of Central Oklahoma.

First baseman Rylann Beeson (Jr.) led the way with three knocks, including a double, while second baseman Abbigail Keele (Jr.) finished with a triple and a double. Outfielder Weslyn McCorvey (Fr.) tallied two base hits.

The Broncos fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, however, they grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the second on three hits and an RBI groundout.

McCorvey got things going with a one-out single before scoring on a triple by Keele, tying the game at 1-1. Outfielder Natalia Delgado (Sr.) followed with a groundout to shortstop, driving in Keele for a 2-1 advantage.

Mustang (1-0) extended its lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning on an RBI-single by catcher Jade Ashbaugh (So.), scoring Beeson who singled earlier in the frame with one out.

Delgado made it 4-1 with an RBI-groundout in the top of the sixth, scoring McCorvey who singled with one out before a double by Keele. Another RBI-groundout by starting pitcher Amelia Mason (Sr.) gave the Broncos a 5-1 lead in the top of the seventh. She drove in shortstop Reese Poage (Jr.), who had reached on a fielder’s choice.

Edmond North cut the lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh, however, Mason sealed the game and the team’s first victory with two strikeouts.

Mason recorded the win, allowing one run on two hits. Aubree Hall (Sr.) started the game and allowed an unearned run on one walk. Hall did not allow a hit.

Outfielder Lexy Kierstead (Jr.), Poage, Ashbaugh, Delgado, and third baseman Adyson McGavock (So.) each finished with one hit, including a double by Kierstead.
