MOORE – The Mustang Broncos continued their strong start to the spring season with their second straight meet championship at the 2024 Ken Hogan Invitational on March 15.
The Broncos won six events and finished with three silver medals and five bronze on route to the win. They scored 157 points, clearing second-place Carl Albert by nearly 80.
Aidan Edwards (Sr.), Carson Patten (Sr.), and CarVelle Jones (Sr.) all won individual events, including a hurdles-sweep by Edwards. Mustang also took home gold in the 4×100 and the 4×800.
Edwards cruised to his second straight win in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. He clocked in at :14.36 in the 110 and :39.52 in the 300 and also helped lead one of two relay wins.
Patten won gold in the 3200-meter run, crossing the finish line in 9:55.09. He also finished runner-up in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:29.55.
Jones tallied his victory in the long jump, landing a leap of 22’02”. He also finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (:15.69) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (:41.14).
Edwards, Taven Brown (Fr.), Ben Patkowski (Jr.), and Tyrone Reynolds (Sr.) won the 4×100 with a time of :43.02 while Cameron Langdon (Jr.), Tavien Gallop (Sr.), Sean Kappel (So.), and Noah Thayer (So.) captured gold in the 4×800, clocking in at 8:31.99.
SILVER & BRONZE

Reynolds came in second in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in :22.88. Cox took home silver with a second place showing in the high jump, clearing the 6’0” mark.
Reynolds also placed third in the 100-meter dash (:11.11) while Derek Straughn (So.) nabbed a bronze in the 200-meter dash (:22.93).
Avante Locke (Sr.) took third in the high jump with a mark of 5’8” while Trent Dovers (Sr.) placed third in the long jump (21’1”). Austin Reed (Sr.) finished third in the shotput.
The 4×400 relay team of Edwards, Thayer, Straughn, and Zachari Young (Sr.) rounded out the team’s medalists with a third-place finish. They clocked in at 3:30.39.
TOP 10 FINISHERS
Patkowski and Brayden Pierce (Jr.) each finished inside the top 10 in the 100-meter dash. Patkowski finished with a time of :11.20 while Pierce clocked in at :11.40.
Teagan Nelson (So.) and Ashton Anderson (Jr.) closed out the middle- and long-distance runs. Nelson finished fourth in the 3200-meter run (10:10.93) and 10th in the 1600-meter run (4:45.96) while Anderson finished ninth in the 800-meter run (2:07.40).
Xavion Chagolla (Sr.) and Zach Kitchen (Fr.) rounded out the hurdles for the Broncos. Chagolla finished secenth in both the 110-meter hurdles (:16.57) and the 300-meter hurdles (:43.05) while Kitchen finished eighth in the 300 (:43.13).
Locke, Tanner Sharon, Davis Chappell (Jr.), and James Wharry (So.) all finished with top 10 performances in jumps.
Locke finished sixth in the long jump (20’1”), Sharon finished seventh in the high jump (5’6”), Chappell finished third in the shotput, and Wharry finished seventh in the pole vault (11’6”).
The 4×400 relay team of Pierce, Reynolds, Brown, and Straughn finished fifth with a time of 1:30.79.
