No. 11 Mustang set for 2023 regional; Broncos knock off Yukon, Westmoore to cap regular season

The No. 11 Mustang Broncos tip off postseason action tonight in the 2023 regional tournament at Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa.

The Broncos (22-7) will square off against Union (8-22) in the semifinals and, with a win, would move on to face either No. 6 Bishop Kelley (18-9) or Sand Springs (14-14) in the championship match.

Mustang and the Redhawks tip off at 6:30 p.m. following Bishop Kelley vs Sand Springs. The championship match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The winner of each of the eight regionals in Class 6A qualify for the state tournament at Union’s UMAC next week.

Mustang enters the regional tournament having won 10 of its last 12 matches, including victories over Bedlam rival Yukon (9/26) and No. 13 Westmoore (10/2). The Broncos also won three out of four matches in the Southmoore tournament last month.

MUSTANG 3, YUKON 1

The Broncos donned pink uniforms for a ‘Pink-Out Night’ win over the Millers on Sept. 26 at the Mustang Event Center.

Erin Mack (Sr.) led the team with 15 kills in the win. Tatum Spencer (Sr.) and Emrie Brown (Jr.) finished with 11 kills apiece while Hadley Hunter (Jr.) finished with seven.

Adisen Williamson (Sr.) paced the team in assists with 19. She also finished with three aces on serves and 14 digs defensively. Merritt Fuller (Fr.) finished with 16 assists while also tallying three aces and 10 digs. Raegan Bullard (Sr.) finished with nine helpers and 12 digs.

Gracelyn Higgins (Jr.) led the Broncos with 24 digs while adding four assists. London Cooper (Sr.) tallied 11 digs with four kills in the victory. Reagan Glenn (So.) contributed eight digs with two aces while Grace Davis (So.) and Melanie Long (Sr.) combined for nine digs and one block.

The Broncos lost the first set to the Millers 26-24 before tying the match 1-1 with a 30-28 second-set victory. Mustang won the third set 25-21 before running away with the fourth set, knocking off Yukon 25-11 for a 3-1 win.

MUSTANG 3, WESTMOORE 2

Mustang won a thrilling 15-13 fifth-set tiebreaker on route to a 3-2 win over the Jaguars on Oct. 2.

After falling behind 2-0 through two sets, the Broncos stormed back with a 27-25 win in the third set and a 25-18 win in the fourth. The victory marked the third straight for Mustang, coming off two wins in the Southmoore tournament.

Four players finished with at least eight kills on the offensive end for Mustang, including Mack, who finished with a team-high 15. Mack also blocked three shots and finished with two digs.

Cooper and Hunter each tallied nine kills while Spencer finished with eight. Cooper added three aces and 19 digs while Spencer led the team defensively with seven blocks. Hunter totaled three blocks and 10 assists.

Fuller paced the team with 26 assists on the offensive end while Williamson added 16. Glenn finished with a team-high 21 digs.
