The Mustang Broncos made a successful trip to Arkansas two weekends ago to race in the 2023 Chile Pepper Festival El Caliente 5K.
The second-ranked Broncos finished fourth out of 110 teams from across the region and second among Oklahoma teams, led by Noah Thayer (So.), Carson Patten (Sr.), and Cameron Langdon (Jr.), who all cracked the 16-minute mark and finished inside the top 30 individually.
Thayer, who has routinely rounded out the team’s top three each race, notched a 16th-place run with a time of 15:44.3, finishing in front of Patten and Langdon for the first time in 2023.
Patten and Langdon weren’t far behind. Patten placed 20th with a time of 15:50.1 while Langdon placed 27th, clocking in at 15:55.7. The trio helped lead the team past No. 3 Edmond North (sixth) and No. 4 Piedmont (ninth).
Senior Luke Balliew cracked the top 100, placing 98th overall with a time of 16:37.6. Fellow senior Ryan Cable placed 114th with a time of 16:43.2.
Teagan Nelson (So.) and Wyatt Fryar (Sr.) rounded out the team’s total score of 275. Nelson placed 118th with a time of 16:44.4 while Fryar placed 243rd with a time of 17:25.9.
Top-ranked Deer Creek won the meet with 113 points and six of seven racers inside the top 60. Bentonville (AR) finished second while Lucas Lovejoy (TX) finished third.
Isaac Rivera (Lincoln College Prep) finished first individually with a time of 15:08.9.
The Broncos now turn their focus to the 2023 Central Oklahoma Athletics Conference meet at Deer Creek on Tuesday. Coach Mike McGarry’s squad then hosts one of two Class 6A regional meets at Wild Horse Park on Oct. 21.
