The Mustang Broncos split a pair of games at the Southmoore Festival last week, including a comeback win over the host Sabercats.
The Broncos (4-5, 2-0) scored three runs over the final three innings to secure the 7-6 victory. Late RBIs from the sophomore trio of Abigail Keele, Reese Poage, and Lexy Kierstead helped lead the way.
Mustang’s late inning push started in the fourth inning after the team had already plated four runs.
Following a pair of singles from Emerson Pegram (Sr.) and Kierstead, Poage tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI-groundout. The young shortstop went 0-for-4, but still found a way to help her squad late in the game.
Keele was able to find a way, too.
She put the ball in play with a groundout to second base, helping manufacture a run by scoring Kenzie Sessions (Sr.) to give the Broncos a 6-5 lead. Sessions, who went 2-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch as well, led off the fifth with a bunt single and reached second after a sacrifice bunt from Rylann Beeson (So.).
Southmoore (5-8, 1-3) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a run on one single, a walk, and an error to make it 6-6. However, the Broncos weren’t finished.

Pegram moved to second base to start the inning. Two pitches later, Kierstead, who finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish, singled on a line drive to left field, scoring the senior first baseman as the eventual game-winning run.
The Broncos would not have been in the game if not for a four-run third inning.
Pegram worked a walk to lead off the frame and moved to second after a sacrifice bunt by Hannon. Kierstead was then hit by a pitch followed by an error off the bat of Poage to load the bases.
Arionna McElroy (Sr.), a McNeese State-commit at catcher, plated the team’s first two runs with a single to right field, cutting Southmoore’s early lead to 5-2. After a flyout by Eden Anderson, Sessions and Beeson made it a one-run lead with back-to-back RBI singles.
Mustang pitchers Aubree Hall (Jr.) and Amelia Mason (Jr.) were both plagued by errors behind them. The Broncos committed five mishaps in the field, leading to all six unearned runs.
Hall started the game, covering two and 2/3 innings while allowing five unearned runs, four hits, and three walks. Mason picked up the win, going two and 1/3 while allowing one unearned run with one walk and a strikeout.
WESTMOORE 4, MUSTANG 0
The Broncos were held to just two hits in a 4-0 loss to the Westmoore Jaguars (10-5, 4-1).
Anderson and Poage recorded the team’s two knocks. Mason suffered the loss in the circle, allowing four hits with one strikeout.
The Broncos continue their season tonight in a district matchup against Jenks (5-4, 3-2) before heading to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond on Friday for the UCO Festival.
