No. 11 Broncos finish sixth with six placers at 2022 COAC tournament

The No. 11 Mustang Broncos featured six placers on route to a sixth-place finish at the 2022 Central Oklahoma Athletics Conference tournament last weekend.

Jacen Jackson led the way with a runner-up finish at 165 pounds while Daegan Reyes placed third at 150. Javin Douglas took home fourth place at 120 pounds, Trent Sprague finished fifth at 106, Flynn Brandrup finished sixth at 132, and Sam Pritz finished sixth at 285.

Jackson breezed through his first four matches in the 165-pound bracket. He scored falls over Chris Steele (Westmoore), Brycen Diaz (Edmond Santa Fe), Joplin Greene (Norman), and Evan Johnson (Norman). He fell to Stillwater’s Landyn Sommers by fall in the championship match.

Reyes received a bye in the first round of the 150-pound bracket and followed by pinning Southmoore’s Toraino Cowart and winning a 6-2 decision over Yukon’s Austen Schane to reach the semifinals.

Reyes lost a tech fall to Stillwater’s Kael Voinovich, but bounced back with a major win over Deer Creek’s Barrett Weathers in the consolation semifinals. He then won a 6-2 decision over Norman North’s Cash Sessions in the third-place match.

Douglas also received a bye in the first round of the 120-pound bracket and followed with two straight wins, including a tech fall over Edmond Memorial’s Carter Wright and a fall over Deer Creek’s Keegan Sullivan.

Douglas lost a 6-4 decision to Westmoore’s Devon Miller in the semifinals, but counced back with a fall over Edmond Santa Fe’s Gavin Horn in the consolation semis. He fell to Edmond North’s Christian Belford in the third-place match.

Sprague got things going with a bye in the first round of the 106-pound bracket followed by a loss by fall to Westmoore’s Eric Casula. He bounced back with a win by fall over Moore’s Wily Welch following a bye, but then lost by fall to Deer Creek’s Nash Neeley in the consolation semis.

Sprague won the fifth-place match by medical forfeit over Southmoore’s Tyler Brayton.

Pritz opened the 285-pound bracket with a bye before defeating Moore’s Jax Ramsey by fall in the second round. He lost a 4-0 decision to Norman North’s Logan Richard in the third round but bounced back with two straight wins over Moore’s Gracen Gruver and Deer Creek’s Joseph Romero.

Pritz lost by fall to Stillwater’s Cameron Johnson in the consolation semis and then lost by medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.

The Broncos finished sixth overall at the tournament, scoring 128.5 points. Top-ranked Edmond North won the COAC championship with 345 points while No. 2 Stillwater (305) finished second. No. 5 Westmoore finished third with 230 points.
