The No. 12 Mustang Broncos had the top-ranked team and defending Class A state champions within striking distance for every bit of 32 minutes on Wednesday night.
Parker Simonsen (Jr.) and Lunden Foreman (Sr.) each scored in double digits, but it wasn’t enough as the Broncos fell to Seiling 47-43 in the first round of the 2022 Bank7 Holiday Classic at the Mustang Event Center.

A quick start by the Wildcats (6-0), which included a 12-7 first-quarter run, helped decide the outcome as Mustang (4-5) actually outscored Seiling 29-28 after the first eight minutes. The Broncos cut the lead to 26-22 at halftime before each team put up 21 in the second half.
Simonsen led Mustang with 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists. Foreman scored 10 points, including six from beyond the arc and four at the free-throw line. The duo combined to go 4-for-13 from three-point range.
Camryn Engles (Jr.) and Cherish Haywood (So.) also provided a spark. Engles led all players with nine rebounds while Haywood scored six points and grabbed four boards. Mya Alston (Fr.) also added six points.
The Wildcats were led by 25 points from Braci Nyberg, who went 9-for-19 from the field, including 2-for-4 from beyond the arc. She also went 5-for-7 at the free-throw line. Aryahna Whetstone and Kenly Gore tallied six points each.
The Broncos fall to the elimination bracket with the loss and will take on Clovis East High School (Calif.) on Thursday at 12 p.m.

EDMOND NORTH 79, SOUTHMOORE 20
Class 6A’s top-ranked Edmond North Huskies (8-0) smoked Southmoore 79-20 in the tournament opener Wednesday morning.
North Carolina State-commit Laci Steele led all scorers with 27 points, going 9-for-10 from the field while dishing out five assists. Elle Papahronis added 23 points while Mallory Jackson scored 10.
VERDIGRIS 31, PUTNAM CITY NORTH 29
Class 4A No. 6 Verdigris (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 31-29 win over Class 6A No. 18 Putnam City North (3-4) in the second game of the tournament.
Three players scored eight points to lead the Cardinals, including Maddy Daniels, Morgan Borgstadt, and Kate Wigington. They helped hold off a late run by the Panthers, who tried to recover from scoring just one point in the third quarter.

CLASSEN SAS 57, CLOVIS EAST (CA) 29
Class 4A No. 15 Classen SAS (5-5) cruised past Clovis East High School 57-29 in the third game of the first round.
Skyler Durley led the Comets with a game-high 18 points while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out six assists. Amyah Sutton tallied 10 points while Jaida O’Conner added nine points with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Gabby Ramos led Clovis East with 16 points while Rajdeep Kaur chipped in 12. The Timberwolves traveled nearly 1,500 miles to take part in the Classic.
