The Mustang Broncos finished third in the 2022 Class 6A state championship meet last weekend at Edmond Santa Fe, capping a tremendous season with another podium performance.
All five of Mustang’s placers finished inside the top-30, including three inside the top-20, allowing the Broncos to edge Deer Creek and Edmond Memorial to avenge their regional meet finish earlier in the month.
Cameron Langdon (So.), Carson Petten (Jr.), and Noah Thayer (Fr.) led the Broncos, and all finished within eight seconds of each other.
Langdon finished finished 15th with a time of 16:08.01, Patten finished 16th with a time of 16:10.76, and Thayer finished 17th with a time of 16:16.07.
Jacoby Nance (Sr.) and Dylan Chaoomchaisiri (Sr.) rounded out the team’s placers. Nance finished 22nd with a time of 16:25.24 while Chaoomchaisiri finished 30th with a time of 16:35.18.
Ryan Cable (Jr.) and Luke Balliew (Jr.) finished as the team’s displacers. Cable placed 81st with a time of 17:45.09 while Balliew placed 94th with a time of 18:17.67.
The Broncos finished with a total time of 1:21:36, including a top-five average time of 16:19.21. The team just missed out on a second-place run, finishing three points behind Owasso.
Edmond North won the 6A state championship with 66 points and three all-state placers. The Rams finished second with 97 points and two all-staters.
Mustang capped an excellent season in which the team won meets at Carl Albert and at home, as well as the Central Oklahoma Athletics Conference championship at Deer Creek.
The Broncos graduate six seniors overall, including Chaoomchaisiri, Nance, Peter DeSplinter, Garrett Hughey, Hunter Martin, and Trestan Tompkins.
