The Mustang Broncos gained plenty of momentum over the weekend as the team prepares for the final stretch of the regular season.
Mustang finished runner-up in the 2022 Stillwater tournament, going 3-2 overall with a loss to Union in the championship match.
The Broncos defeated Stillwater’s junior varsity, Holland Hall, and Westmoore on route to the second-place finish.
MUSTANG 2, STILLWATER JV 0
Mustang cruised past Stillwater’s JV in two sets.
Grace White (Sr.) led the way offensively with seven kills on eight attempts while London Cooper (Jr.) and Erin Mack (Jr.) each finished with four.
Anissah Gaines (Sr.) tallied 14 assists while Adisen Williamson (Jr.) assisted on four points. Mikayla Eagle (Sr.) paced the team with seven aces. Rylee Hart (Sr.) and Gaines each finished with one.
Williamson and Eagle each finished with four digs to lead the way defensively while Gaines totaled three. Hart tallied two as well. Cooper totaled two blocks while White finished with one.
The Broncos won both sets 25-18.
MUSTANG 2, HOLLAND HALL 1
Mustang squeaked past Holland Hall in a third-set tiebreaker to improve to 2-0 on the tournament.
Eagle finished with 12 kills on 18 attempts to lead the Broncos offensively. Mack totaled five while White added four. Cooper and Tatum Spencer (Jr.) each finished with three.
Gaines and Williamson handled the assists for Mustang, combining for 21 total. Gaines finished with 17 while Williamson finished with 14.
The Broncos reeled off seven aces in the match, including three from Eagle and two apiece from Cooper and Gaines.
The team finished with 39 digs on the defensive end, including a team-high nine from Cooper. Hart and Eagle each tallied eight digs while Gaines finished with five. Four players finished with one block in the match, including Emma White (Sr.), Grace White, Mack, and Spencer.
Mustang dropped the first set 25-23, however, bounced back to win the second set before a 15-11 victory in the third-set tiebreaker.
UNION 2, MUSTANG 0
The Broncos fell to No. 11 Union in two sets for their first loss of the tournament.
Eagle registered six kills offensively to lead the team while Mack finished with three. Gaines tallied 14 assists while Williamson recorded five.
Defensively, Eagle and Williamson led the team with four kills apiece while Cooper notched two blocks.
Mustang dropped the first set of the match 25-11 before falling 25-22 in the second.
MUSTANG 3, WESTMOORE 1
Mustang bounced back from its loss to Union with a four-set win over Westmoore in the tournament semifinals.
The Broncos finished with 40 kills on the offensive end, including a team-high 10 from Mack. Spencer recorded nine while Grace White cranked out eight.
Gaines and Williamson combined for 40 assists while Williamson and Grace Davis (Fr.) combined for six of the team’s tournament-high 12 aces.
Eagle and Hart combined for 22 digs while Williamson finished with nine. Spencer paced the team with three blocks while Eagle and Emma White each finished with two.
The Broncos won the first set 25-12 and the second 25-24. They fell 25-23 in the third set and closed out the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.
UNION 3, MUSTANG 0
The Broncos fell in three sets to Union in the finals.
The team finished with 27 kills in the match, including a team-high seven from Spencer. Mack, Eagle, and Grace White each tallied five. Gaines and Williamson combined for 26 assists while Williamson, Davis, Gaines, and Gracelyn Higgins each added one.
Eagle and Hart combined for 25 digs to lead the team defensively. Gaines added seven while Grace White and Higgins each notched four. Grace White and Spencer led the team with three blocks apiece.
