Mustang scores 25 runs in doubleheader sweep of Putnam City West

The Mustang Broncos continued to stay hot midway through the season, knocking off Putnam City West twice in a home double-header on Sept. 3.

The Broncos racked up 18 hits while senior pitchers Amelia Mason and Aubree Hall combined for a pair of no-hitters.

GAME 1: MUSTANG 10, PUTNAM CITY WEST 0

Mustang racked up 10 runs on seven hits to take the first game of the double dip.

Hall recorded the win, allowing just one walk with eight strikeouts over three innings. She needed just 54 total pitches in the victory.

Three players finished with at least two hits, including third baseman Skyla Hagan (Fr.), first baseman Bailey Summa (So.), and left fielder Morgan McClain (Jr.).

The Broncos scored five runs on four hits, three free passes, and one error to get things going in the bottom of the first inning.

Second baseman Natalee Nichols (Jr.) led off the frame with a walk, followed by a run scoring triple by catcher Raegan Hodde (Fr.). Hagan recorded her first hit with an RBI-double for a 2-0 lead before Summa roped a triple to left field to score Hodde, making it 3-0. A Patriot error pushed another run across for a 4-0 advantage.

Mustang put five more runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning, finishing the frame with three hits and four walks.

Shortstop Madison Smith (Fr.), Nichols, and Hodde loaded the bases with three straight walks before an RBI-single by Hagan for a 6-0 lead. Summa made it 8-0 with a two-run knock, followed by a walk to Nyli Brown (Sr.) and a fielder’s choice off the bat of right fielder Reece Fixico (So.) plated a run for a 9-0 lead.

Centerfielder Lyla Nichols (Jr.) followed with a walk before an RBI-single by McClain gave the Broncos a 10-0 advantage.

GAME 2: MUSTANG 15, PUTNAM CITY WEST 0

Mustang closed the double header with 15 runs on 11 hits, one walk, and four PC West errors. Mason earned the perfect game victory with eight strikeouts.

Eight players recorded a hit for the Broncos, including three from first baseman Rylann Beeson (Jr.) and two from Abigail Keele (Jr.). Beeson went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored while Keele went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs.

The Broncos scored five runs on four hits, one error, and a hit-by-pitch in the top of the first inning.

Shortstop Reese Poage (Jr.) led the frame off by reaching on an error before scoring on an RBI-triple by Beeson. Centerfielder Lexy Kierstead (Jr.) followed with an RBI-double for a 2-0 lead.

Catcher Jade Ashbaugh (So.) reached on a hit-by-pitch before a two-run double by Keele to make it 4-0. Right fielder Weslyn McCorvey (Fr.) followed with an RBI-triple for a 5-0 advantage.

Mustang plated five more runs in the top of the second inning, recording three hits while taking advantage of two Patriot errors.

Mason reached on an error to lead off the frame, followed by a single by Delgado. The Broncos scored their sixth run on an error off the bat of third baseman Adyson McGavock (So.) before a two-run single by Poage and an RBI-double by Beeson to make it 10-0.

Two batters later, Mustang pushed across another run on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Ashbaugh.

The Broncos finished off the victory with five runs on four hits and two free passes in the top of the third inning.

Keele led off the frame with a single before a walk to McCorvey. Mason doubled home both runners for a 12-0 lead, followed by a hit-by-pitch drawn by Delgado. Hall and Beeson each singled, driving home three runs to make it 15-0.

NEXT UP

The Broncos travel to Midwest City to take on the Bombers (3-11, 0-7) on Tuesday, Sept. 17 before returning home on Sept. 19 to host the Edmond North Huskies (9-8, 4-4). Mustang has already defeated both teams in district play this season.
