Broncos finish fourth in 2024 Yukon Open at Crimson Creek; Benton, Henderson come in T-14

Three players finished inside the top 25 individually and helped guide the Mustang Broncos to fourth place at the 2024 Yukon Open last week.

Johnathan Benton (So.) and Beau Henderson (So.) each carded a 13-over-par 85 while Antonio Smith (Jr.) shot a 14-over-par 86 on Thursday at Crimson Creek Golf Course in El Reno.

Benton and Henderson finished T-14 while Smith finished 18th. Zachary Waller (Sr.) and Ty Gregg (Sr.) combined to shoot 181 to round out the team’s overall score of 346.

Henderson got off to an up-and-down start with a par on his first hole, the par-4 second, followed by a double bogey and a birdie the third and fourth. He finished strong however, carding a birdie on the par-4 18th before closing with a par on the par-4 first.

Smith started strong as well, recording a birdie on his first hole – the par-5 fourth. He went on to shoot an 8-over-par 42 on the front nine and an 8-over-par 44 on the back, finishing with five pars.

Waller, who finished 28th overall, parred three of his first five holes on route to an 18-over-par 90. He finished with four pars altogether and a birdie on the par-4 17th. He recorded a 7-over-par 43 on the front nine and an 11-over-par 47 on the back.

Gregg’s day started with double bogey on his first hole, the par-3 third, however he quickly made up for it with a birdie on the par-4 fourth and a par on the par-4 fifth. He played 1-over on holes 4-9 and added two pars on the back nine on route to T-32 with a 19-over-par 91.

Class 3A No. 2 Community Christian won the tournament with a team score of 313. Top-ranked Edmond North finished second with a score of 324 and No. 15 Yukon finished third with a score of 337.

Edmond North’s Nate Ingram (Sr.) won the individual crown with a 2-over-par 74. Community Christian’s Collin Bond shot a 3-over-par 75 in second place while Comanche’s RJ Roberts (So.) shot a 5-over-par 77 in third.

The Broncos now get set for Regionals on May 1 at Ponca City Country Club. They will play a practice round on Thursday before heading back next Wednesday for the Regional Tournament.
