The Mustang Broncos scored 41 runs on route to three wins in the 2024 Northwest Optimist Tournament on April 11-12 in Oklahoma City.

The Broncos cruised to wins over Putnam City West, Norman North, and Putnam City Original during the two-day event. The team’s bats stayed hot, coming into the tournament after scoring 41 runs against Lawton earlier in the week.

MUSTANG 12, PC WEST 0 (4/11)

Mustang scored 12 runs on nine hits in a four-inning win over the Patriots.

Carlos Lopez (Sr.), Kaden Williams (Jr.), and Carson Sawyer (Sr.) all finished with extra-base hits in the victory.

Williams led the way, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, five RBI, and one run scored. Jackson Pickelsimer (Sr.) and Sawyer each tallied two hits, including two doubles by Sawyer. Pickelsimer drove in and scored one run while Sawyer scored three times.

Maddox Lawson (Sr.) earned the victory on the mound, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts over three innings. Teagan Munson (Sr.) recorded the final three outs with one strikeout.

MUSTANG 3, NORMAN NORTH 2

The Broncos picked up a well-earned victory over Norman North in Game 2 of the tournament.

An RBI groundout by Kamden Mantooth (So.) scored Williams as the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Broncos a 3-2 victory.

Williams reached with a one-out single in the seventh inning before moving into scoring position on a pair of Timberwolf errors. Mantooth converted, putting the ball in play with less than two outs to seal the win.

Mustang plated two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game.

Blaine Fulmer (Jr.) singled with one out before a two-out knock by Lopez moved Fulmer to third base. Pickelsimer followed with a double to center field, scoring Fulmer and Lopez to tie the game at 2-2.

The Broncos were held to just one hit over the first four innings – a single by Lawson.

Kylen Dodge (Jr.) got the job done on the bump, allowing just two runs, including one earned, on five hits and two walks. He finished with one strikeout over six innings.

Zane Lynch (Jr.) closed the game out, allowing one hit before recording the final three outs.

MUSTANG 26, PUTNAM CITY 0

Mustang scored 26 runs on 23 hits in a blowout win over the Pirates.

Eight players finished with at least two hits, including Sawyer, who went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two RBI.

Jake Blice (Sr.) went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and two RBI. Williams went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. Pickelsimer went 2-for-2 with a bomb and four RBI.

Fulmer, Lawson, Lopez, and Jakson Weaver (Sr.) all tallied two knocks, including a triple by Fulmer, two doubles by Lopez, and one double by Weaver and Lawson.

Dodge and Cale Humphrey (So.) also doubled.

Lynch earned the victory on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings without allowing a hit or a walk.
