The Mustang Broncos cruised to an 8-3 win over the Moore Lions last week, notching the team’s second win this spring.

The Broncos (2-2) finished with 13 hits, including home runs from short fielder Arionna McElroy (Sr.) and first baseman Rylann Beeson (So.), on route to the victory. Emerson Pegram (Sr.) picked up the win from the pitcher’s circle.

Pegram pitched a gem, allowing just nine hits with two strikeouts and one walk over seven innings. She kept the Lions off the board for the first four frames while the Broncos also struggled to score.

Mustang finally broke through in the top of the fifth inning, scoring the first two runs of the game on singles from Pegram and second baseman Lexi Kierstead (So.) and a two-run triple from third baseman Eden Anderson (Sr.).

Beeson’s homer in the top of the sixth gave Mustang a 4-0 lead. She drove home catcher Nyli Brown (Jr.), who walked to start the frame. Moore (2-5) followed with two runs in the bottom half to cut the lead to 4-2.

The Broncos iced the game with four runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Right fielder Amelia Mason (Jr.) led off with a single to left field before a double by Kierstead and a walk by Anderson to load the bases. Kierstead finished the game 4-for-4 from the top of Mustang’s order.

Shortstop Reese Poage (So.) followed with a five-pitch walk to push across pinch runner Reece Fixico (Fr.) and extend the team’s lead to 5-2. Two batters later, McElroy crushed a three-run shot over the left field wall to make it 8-2.

Moore pushed across one run in the bottom of the seventh on a double and an RBI-single.

Eight players recorded hits for Lacy Darity’s squad, including Rylee Hannon (Sr.), who went 2-for-3.

The Broncos return from Spring Break with a road trip to Class 5A Elgin (2-2) to take on the Owls on March 25. They return home to face 5A Bristow (10-3) and Westmoore (6-4) on March 26.
