Playoff brackets are set for the 2023-24 basketball postseason and the Mustang Broncos’ path to a regional championship will likely put them up against the defending state title holders.
For the first time, Class 6A starts with eight regional tournaments before area and state. The Broncos (14-9, 6-8) will take on Putnam City West (10-12, 8-6) in the second quarterfinals game of the Edmond North regional on Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
The defending state champion Huskies (18-3, 13-1) open the tournament against Lawton Ike (3-18, 0-14) at 6 p.m. prior to Mustang vs PC West.
Each of the eight Class 6A regionals will be double elimination with each champion automatically advancing to the Area Tournament the following week. Eight regional consolation champions will also advance.
Mustang finished fifth in the 6A District 1 standings behind Edmond North, Deer Creek, Moore, and Piedmont. The team’s first-round opponent – PC West – finished fourth in District 2 behind Norman, Edmond Santa Fe, and Lawton.
The Class 6A State Tournament is scheduled for March 6, 8, and 9 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
