The Mustang Broncos just missed out on hosting a Class 6A Regional Tournament this year, however, they won’t have to travel far for the first round of the 2023-24 postseason.

Mustang’s path to a regional title starts in their Bedlam rival’s gym as the Broncos (17-6, 10-4) have been placed in the Yukon regional with an opening matchup against Lawton Ike (7-15, 4-10) on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m.

With a win, coach Katie Smith’s team would face either the Millerettes (17-6, 10-4) or Deer Creek (6-17, 3-11) in the championship game on Feb. 23. Those two squads face off on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the first regional game.

Each of the eight Class 6A regionals will be double elimination with each champion automatically advancing to the Area Tournament the following week. Eight regional consolation champions will also advance.

Mustang finished third in 6A District 1 behind two-time defending state champion Edmond North and Putnam City North. The Broncos’ opponent – Lawton Ike – finished sixth in District 2.

The Area Tournaments – with sites and times yet to be determined – are scheduled for next week followed by the 6A State Tournament from March 6-9 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
