Eight Broncos heading to state; Team sets two school records on route to fifth place at regionals

Eight Mustang Broncos are heading to the Class 6A State Championship Meet next weekend after a strong performance at the Class 6A West Regional in Edmond.

Gavin Davis (Sr.), Mason Scott (Jr.), Parker Campbell (Sr.), Ace Seck (Jr.), Dominic Tonn (So.), Jackson Fogt (So.), Austin Price (Sr.), and Dalton Le (Jr.) will represent MHS next Friday and Saturday at the Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center.

The Broncos qualified in 12 individual events as well as two relays and broke two school records along the way.

Scott qualified for state in two events, including the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. He finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a new school record time of 1:50.21 and fifth in the butterfly with a time of :56.21.

Davis came away with the team’s best individual finish, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.85. He also qualified in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at :52.09 for seventh place.

Campbell placed in the top-six in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle.

He finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :51.60 and sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.93.

Tonn cracked the top-10 in two events. He finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.22 and 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :23.74.

Seck rounded out the team’s double qualifiers with a pair of seventh place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

He clocked in at 23:27 in the 50-yard freestyle and 56.98 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Fogt and Price each qualified in one event. Fogt placed 11th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.05) while Price placed 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.72).

Campbell, Tonn, Seck, and Scott each qualified for their third event by leading the 200-yard freestyle relay team to third place, setting a new school record time of 1:33.90.

Davis and Tonn qualified for their third event while Fogt and Le made it two with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. They recorded a time of 1:48.51.

The Broncos finished fifth overall while Edmond North finished first, Deer Creek finished second, and Edmond Memorial finished third.

The 2024 Class 6A State Championship Meet will begin with preliminary rounds on Feb. 15 followed by the finals on Feb. 16.
