Realtor Michael S. Ray Athlete of the Week: Mya Alston scores in double digits twice, helps lead Broncos to win over Deer Creek

Mya Alston (So.) has been named the Realtor Michael S. Ray Athlete of the Week for the Week of Dec. 11.

Alston scored in double digits twice and helped lead the Broncos (5-3, 3-2) to a 64-36 win over district rival Deer Creek just before Christmas break.

She scored 15 points on 5-for-13 shooting and led the team with seven steals and six rebounds in its win over the Antlers.

Alston also scored a team-high 13 points with two takeaways and one assist in a 57-37 loss to two-time defending state champion Edmond North.

The sophomore guard looks to help guide Mustang to the Bank 7 Mustang Holiday Classic championship this weekend at the school’s Event Center. The Broncos return to district play on Jan. 9 at Moore.

HONORABLE MENTION

Parker Simonsen (Sr. / Basketball): Simonsen scored 20 points with three rebounds and two assists in Mustang’s win over Deer Creek. She scored six points with two rebounds in the team’s loss to Edmond North.

Roman Miller (Jr. /Basketball): Miller led the Broncos with 25 points and nine rebounds in a 67-57 win over Deer Creek. He also scored 14 points and grabbed two boards in a 61-42 loss to defending state champion Edmond North.

Jacee Jimeson (Sr. / Swimming): Jimeson finished first in two events in a meet against Enid on Dec. 11, including the 200-yard medley and the 100-yard backstroke. She also finished first in the 200-yard freestyle in the 2023 Stillwater Meet on Dec. 14.

Brenda Nguyen (Sr. / Swimming): Nguyen also finished first in two events at Enid, including the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly at the Stillwater Meet.
