After capturing the championship at 157 pounds in the 2023 Gardner Edgerton Invitational in Gardner, Kan., Daegan Reyes (Jr.) has been named the Realtor Michael S. Ray Athlete of the Week for the Week of Nov. 27.
Reyes dominated in Kansas, winning all five of his matches by fall, including a victory over Brady Martin of Tonganoxie High School (Kan.) at the 2:52 mark in the finals. He defeated Martin’s teammate, Gannon Sonntag, at 1:34 in the semifinals.
The junior standout also defeated Broken Arrow’s Blake Belotta at the 1:33 mark in the second round of the tournament. Reyes’ only loss of the week came against Bixby’s Ishmael Guerrero in the team’s opening dual on Nov. 27.
Reyes returns to the Bronco lineup at 157 this winter after qualifying for the Class 6A State Tournament and reaching the consolation semifinals at 150 last winter. Second-year coach Will Delk is excited about Reyes’ ability and leadership and sees him returning to Jim Norick Arena in February.
