Realtor Michael S. Ray Athlete of the Week: Mason Scott breaks own school record in opening meet of 2023-24 season

After breaking his own school record in the 100-yard butterfly during Mustang’s opening meet of the 2023-24 season, Mason Scott (Jr.) has been named the Realtor Michael S. Ray Athlete of the Week for the Week of Nov. 13.

Scott shed over a full second off his record, clocking in at :58.05 in the 2023 Norman Meet on Nov. 14. He also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.37 and helped lead the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams to first place in their events.

The junior swimmer also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley on Nov. 17 at the Altus Meet. He helped lead the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle teams to second place.

Scott qualified for the State Championship Meet last year in two individual events, including the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle. He is expected to help lead an experienced Mustang team throughout the season.

HONORABLE MENTION

Jacee Jimeson (Sr. / Swimming): Jimeson finished first in two individual events at the Norman Meet on Nov. 14, including the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. She also helped lead the 200-yard freestyle relay team to first place and the 400-yard freestyle relay team to third.

Gavin Davis (Sr. / Swimming): Davis finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Norman Meet on Nov. 14 and second in the 50-yard freestyle. He also finished first in the breaststroke event at the Altus Meet and the 100-yard freestyle.
