In just his second varsity start, Mustang freshman quarterback Tyson Pogi has been named the Realtor Michael S. Ray Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 23.
Pogi helped lead the Broncos to a 48-10 district win over Edmond North last Friday night at Husky Stadium, going 16-for-18 for 292 yards with five touchdown passes. Three of his scoring throws came in the first half, including a 16-yarder to L.B. Hayes (Sr.) in the second quarter.
Pogi connected with Jaden Johnson (So.) on touchdown passes four times over the middle two quarters. They hooked up for a 31-yard strike and a 15-yarder in the second before scores of 55 and 69 yards in the third.
Mustang’s freshman signal caller has shown vast improvement over the course of the last three games, settling in nicely with coach Lee Blankenship and offensive coordinator Cody McDaniel’s offense and playbook.
He is now up to 478 passing yards on the season with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Pogi and the Broncos look to capture the fifth playoff spot from Class 6A-1 District 2 on Friday night with a senior night matchup against Edmond Memorial. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
