Five Mustang Broncos wrestled in the 2023 girls west regional tournament on Tuesday at the Mustang Event Center.

Nevaeh Kent (Jr.) finished sixth at 115 pounds and will wrestle at state if one of the top-five placers drop for any reason. Rebekah Vadakekut (So.), Molly Hanes (So.), Natalie Parada (So.), and Rayann Gragg (So.) also represented the Broncos as wrestlers from 30 teams competed for a spot in the 2023 Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association state tournament.

Although the Broncos didn’t qualify anyone for state, all five wrestlers gained valuable experience while totaling 39 points and ____ match wins.

Kent opened the tournament with a win by fall over Lawton’s Alyssa White before losing by fall to Westmoore’s Kyrstan Perez in the second round. She responded with four straight wins, including falls over Elgin’s Marelis Ayarza, Edmond Memorial’s Nevaeh Miller, Kingfisher’s Emily Warren, and El Reno’s Caire Solansky.

Kent lost to Perez again by fall in the consolation semifinals before losing a 5-2 decision to Moore’s Brookyln Noel in the fifth-place match.

Vadakekut opened the tournament with a bye at 100 pounds before advancing to the third round with a win by fall over Cache’s Kyndale Barfield. Vadakekut’s tournament came to an end with a loss by fall to Anadarko’s Calli Connally in the championship quarterfinals and a loss to Anjelica Morales from Little Axe in her first consolation bracket match.

Hanes got off to a hot start with a win by fall over Anadarko’s Addy Thrash at 120 pounds. After a loss by fall to Putnam City West’s Suzannah Gray, Hanes bounced back with a win by fall over Southeast’s Lecly Sanchez. A loss by fall to Midwest City’s Megan Aaron ended Hanes’ tournament.

Parada opened the 130-pound bracket with a bye before winning by fall over Lawton Ike’s Christian Guerrero. Parada fell to Little Axe’s Ainsley Jennings in the championship quarterfinals before losing by fall to Noble’s Victoria Payne in her first consolation match.

Gragg opened the 145-pound bracket with a loss by fall to Victoria Brooks but rebounded with a win over Madill’s Tarah Wiese in her first consolation bracket match. Gragg lost to Elgin’s Chenelle Brown in the following match to end her tournament.
