Mustang nabs second place at Putnam City Invitational, third at Edmond Meet

The Mustang Broncos returned to the pool following Christmas break, racking up a second-place finish at the Putnam City Invitational and third place at the Edmond Meet.

The Broncos clocked top-10 times in 17 different events last Tuesday at the PC Invite while producing 13 top-10s in the Edmond Meet on Saturday.

PUTNAM CITY INVITATIONAL

Brody White led the way in the PC Invite, recording the team’s lone individual win. He won the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:22.76 and also finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.83).

Gavin Davis, Parker Campbell, and Dalton Le finished in the top-10 in two events each.

Davis finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.37 and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (:54.83). Campbell finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.39 and eighth in the 100-backstroke (1:09.06). Le finished seventh in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:34.15 and ninth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.25).

Mason Scott and Dominic Tonn each contributed a top-five performance in the 50-yard freestyle. Scott finished third with a time of :23.97 while Tonn finished fifth with a time of :25.00.

Ace Seck, Gavin Porterfield, Skyler Fair, and Austin Price rounded out the team’s top-10 finishes.

Seck placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.17), Porterfield finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:25.44), Fair finished 10th in the 200-yard medley (2:49.23), and Price finished 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.78).

Three of Mustang’s relay squads finished inside the top-five, including the 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard medley team of White, Davis, Seck, and Tonn finished third with a time of 1:50.66 while the 400-yard freestyle team of Le, Seck, Tonn, and Davis also finished third, clocking in at 3:47.25.

The 200-yard freestyle team of White, Seck, Scott, and Brayden Price Wiestner finished fourth with a time of 1:39.24.

The Broncos scored 285 points in second place. Bishop McGuiness won the meet with 312 points while Yukon finished third with 272.

EDMOND MEET

Scott, Davis, and White produced three top-five finishes to help lead Mustang at the Edmond Meet on Saturday.

Scott finished runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :23.81 while Davis finished fourth with a time of :24.41. White finished fifth in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of :28.46.

Davis also finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.65) and seventh in the 50-yard breaststroke (:31.06). White finished with a pair of top-10s, including a ninth place showing in the 50-yard freestyle (:24.73) and 10th in the 100-yard medley (1:02.92).

Fair, Seck, and Campbell rounded out the team’s top-10s at the meet.

Fair finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.94), Seck finished 10th in the 50-yard backstroke (:31.37), and Campbell finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.58).

Mustang’s relay teams all finished in the top-six.

The 200-yard breaststroke team of Scott, Price, Price Wiestner, and Davis finished third (2:12.64) and the 200-yard freestyle team of White, Davis, Tonn, and Scott finished fourth (1:37.73).

The 200-yard butterfly team of White, Campbell, Le, and Seck finished fifth (1:53.13) and the 200-yard medley team of White, Davis, Seck, and Scott finished sixth (1:49.19).

The Broncos scored 342 points at the meet, just behind second place Edmond Santa Fe, who scored 346. Edmond North won the meet going away with 719 points.

POSTSEASON MEETS

Mustang heads into postseason meets, starting on Saturday with the Central Oklahoma Athletics Conference Meet. The OSSAA Regional meet is scheduled for Feb. 4 followed by the State Meet on Feb. 18.
