The Mustang Broncos returned from Christmas break with a pair of top-five performances in the Putnam City Invitational and the Edmond Meet last week.
The Broncos finished in the top-10 in 13 events, including wins in the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley relay, on route to third place in the PC Invite last Tuesday. They followed with 12 top-10s at the Edmond Meet on Friday, finishing fifth overall.
PUTNAM CITY INVITATIONAL
Brenda Nguyen picked up the victory in the 50-yard freestyle at the PC Invite, coming in with a time of :25.65. It was the team’s only individual win at the meet.
Nguyen, who also placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.10), helped lead the 200-medley relay team to victory, along with Jacee Jimeson, Katelyn Capp, and Zoey Clark. The group clocked a time of 2:08.97.
Jimeson also had success at the meet, finishing third in two events, including the 200-yard medley (2:34.79) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.12). She also helped lead the 200-yard freestyle relay team to third place, along with Nguyen, Clark, and Capp. They clocked a time of 1:54.34.
Capp racked up a pair of top-10 finishes individually, including a seventh place run in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:27.35). She also finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:09.35.
Lucy Hogan placed in the top-10 in two events as well, including the 200-yard medley and the 100-yard butterfly. She placed seventh in the medley with a time of 3:20.32 and 10th in the butterfly with a time of 1:34.28.
Clark, Cori Phelan, and Keaton Brown rounded out the team’s top-10 individual performances.
Clark finished 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:32.55, Phelan finished ninth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:33.35, and Brown finished seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 8:17.13.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team closed things out with a seventh-place performance. The team of Brown, Diana Aviles, Lillian Pinkerton, and Makenah Klepsie clocked a time of 5:27.49.
Mustang scored 258 points overall. Yukon finished just ahead of the Broncos in second place, scoring 287 points. Deer Creek won the meet with 325 points.

EDMOND MEET
Nguyen and Jimeson helped lead the way again on Friday, combining for three second place performances while helping lead three relay teams.
Nguyen finished second in both the 50-yard freestyle (:25.58) and the 50-yard butterfly (:28.24). She also finished third in the 100-yard medley with a time of 1:06.35.
Jimeson finished second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of :30.73, fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (:27.50), and ninth in the 100-yard medley (1:10.32).
Capp and Clark also clocked top-10 performances in the 50-yard freestyle. Capp finished fifth with a time of :30.25 while Clark finished sixth with a time of :30.76.
The 200-medley, freestyle, butterfly, and breaststroke relay teams rounded out the top-10s for Mustang.
The 200-medley team of Jimeson, Capp, Nguyen, and Clark finished third with a time of 2:07.63. The same group finished third in the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.47.

Jimeson, Nguyen, Hogan, and Phelan led the 200-butterfly team to sixth (2:19.59) while Brown, Klepsie, Avery Halcomb, and Elizabeth Adkins led the 200-breaststroke team to seventh (3:26.97).
The Broncos scored 285 points in fifth place. Edmond North won the meet with 617 points while Edmond Memorial finished second (497) and Yukon finished third (306).
POSTSEASON MEETS
Mustang heads into postseason meets, starting on Saturday with the Central Oklahoma Athletics Conference Meet. The OSSAA Regional meet is scheduled for Feb. 4 followed by the State Meet on Feb. 18.
