Mustang swim teams open season with strong performance vs Norman, Norman North

Mustang’s girls and boys swim teams kicked off the winter sports season last week with their opening meet against Norman and Norman North.

Gavin Davis (Sr.) picked up his first individual win of the season as well as the boys 400-freestyle and the girls 200-freestyle relay teams. Nine Broncos improved personal-best times in different events.

Davis placed first in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:12.56, shaving 2.43 second off his best time in the event. Davis also placed second in the 100-freestyle with a time of :54.80.

Parker Campbell (So.), Dominic Tonn (Fr.), Ace Seck (So.) and Brody White (Sr.) finished first in the boys 400-freestyle relay with a time of 3:54.18.

Katelyn Capp (Jr.), Julian Hua (So.), Zoey Clark (Sr.), and Brenda Nguyen (Jr.) placed first in the girls 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:54.54.

Six Mustang individuals and four relay teams reeled off top-three performances.

Tonn finished runner-up in the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:53.22 – an improvement of 15.87 seconds from his personal best in the event. Seck finished second in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:59.17 while White finished third in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:05.01.

Nguyen, Capp, and Jacee Jimseson (Jr.) led the girls, combining for four top-three finishes.

Nguyen finished second in the 50-freestyle with a time of :26.14 while Capp placed second in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:24.14. Jimeson placed second in the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:05.48 (1.15 improvement) and third in the 200-medley with a time of 2:40.73 (6.99 improvement).

White, Davis, Tonn, and Austin Price (Jr.) led the boys 200-medley relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 1:52.89 while Price, Davis, Seck, and Skyler Fair (So.) led the 200-freestyle team to second with a time of 1:45.47.

Nguyen, Jimeson, Capp, and Clark led the girls 200-medley relay team to third place with a time of 2:08.38 while Diana Aviles (So.), Cori Phelan (Jr.), Jimeson, and Nguyen led the 400-freestyle team to third with a time of 4:50.86.

Campbell (100-backstroke), Price (100-breaststroke), Gavin Porterfield (100-freestyle), and Brandon Preto (200-freestyle) all improved personal best times for the boys while Clark (100-freestyle) and Diana Aviles (100-backstroke) improved their best times for the girls.

The meet set up as a dual between the Broncos, Norman, and Norman North.

Mustang’s boys defeated Norman 92-67 but fell to Norman North 89-77. The Bronco girls lost to both the Tigers and Timberwolves.
