2022 Mustang volleyball schedule breakdown

The Mustang Broncos jump-start the season Friday with three pool play matches in the 2022 Norman tournament, followed by bracket play Saturday.

The Broncos will get plenty of work over the first two weeks, including a pair of tournament appearances and the team’s first home match against Union.

After going 19-19 a year ago, Mustang is looking to bounce back and reach the state tournament for the second time in three years.

Here is how the team’s schedule breaks down:

HOME MATCHES

Union / Aug. 15 – The two teams matched up once last year, a four-set win by Union in Tulsa. The Redhawks went 21-10 in 2021 but were eliminated from the regional tournament.

Moore / Aug. 25 – The Broncos defeated the Lions in four sets in their lone matchup last year. Moore went 21-13 in 2021 but was eliminated from the regional tournament.

Norman / Aug. 30 – Mustang closes out August with a match at home against Norman, who went 10-21 last season. The Broncos lost two of three matchups to the Tigers in 2021.

Edmond Santa Fe / Sept. 6 – The Broncos fell to the Wolves twice last season, including a regional elimination game. Santa Fe went 30-6 overall, falling to Norman North in the state tournament semifinals.

Southmoore / Sept. 8 – Mustang defeated Southmoore twice last season, including a win in the Norman tournament. The Sabercats went 11-15 overall.

Edmond North / Sept. 15 – The two teams met just once last season – a five-set win by the Huskies. North went 16-15 in 2021.

Westmoore / Oct. 3 – The Broncos defeated the Jaguars in three sets in their lone matchup in 2021. Westmoore went 11-22 overall. This will be the final home match of the season for Mustang.

ROAD MATCHES

Edmond Memorial / Aug. 23 – The Broncos and Bulldogs met once last season – a four-set win by Memorial, who fell to Edmond Santa Fe in the first round of the 2021 state tournament.

Norman North / Sept. 12 – Mustang fell to Norman North three times last year, including a pair of losses in the Jenks tournament and the Mustang tournament. The Timberwolves went 30-6 in 2021, falling to Jenks in the state championship match.

Deer Creek / Sept. 19 – The Broncos fell to the Antlers twice last season, including a loss in the Norman tournament. Deer Creek went 23-8 overall, falling to state champion Jenks in the state tournament quarterfinals.

Yukon / Sept. 27 – Bedlam is on the road this year after the Broncos and Millerettes split a pair of matches in 2021. Mustang won once in the Norman tournament while Yukon won later in the season at the Mustang Event Center. The Millerettes went 9-21 overall.

Stillwater / Oct. 6 – Mustang fell to Stillwater in three sets in their only matchup last season. The Pioneers went 9-21 in 2021.

Stillwater Tournament – Sept. 23-24

Mustang Tournament – Sept. 30 – Oct. 1

Regional Tournament – Oct. 11
